The software-technical complex of MultiMedia means has been formed, developed and applied in the teaching process. All the developments made in 1993-1996 were displayed at the exhibitions "MultiMedia in Education" held by the State Committee of Higher Education of Russia, reported at the Third International conference "East-West: Computers in Education ED-EW 94" ( Moscow 1994), at the International conference (Graatz, Austria, 1995), were awarded with the prize of the International association on the latest applications of the computers in education (AACE - Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education). The aforesaid complex is used while studying courses on forest engineering, programming, mechanics, foreign languages. A higher level of the works in this direction is acknowledged, for example, by the fact that in 1995 the University became one of the 11 participants of the Russian pilot project "Learning foreign languages in non-language higher schools".
The Centre offers the services of telecommunications to the teachers and students of the University who have not available such opportunities at their places of work. For example, owing to the above, the departments of the University are considered to succeed in the joint long distance control (remote distance) educational project of the economical students of the Mari State Technical University and the Coleraine University (Northern Ireland), the joint project with the Moscow Energetic Institute, remote distance methods of training higher-qualified personnel in the field of radio-engineering (teaching students, preparing for the post-graduate course, improving and raising qualification and retraining teaching staff, remote post-graduate course, etc.
The Centre fulfils the functions of the telecommunication unit of the Internet system for subdivisions and departments of the Technical University. At present an access to the information resources of the Internet has become possible through 70 computers in 15 subdivisions of the University.
Through using methodological and organizational potential of the Information Technologies Centre during recent 2-3 years we have managed to considerably broaden and improve publication and editorial opportunities of the software-technical complex of the University Editorship. It is thanks to the above, that the publication of the teaching aids and education instructions literature has increased twice as much. Computerization of the Scientific-technical library of the University is under way.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Upbringing of the Mari El Republic The Centre of New Information Technologies supervises informatization of education in the schools of Yoshkar-Ola and on the whole territory of the Mari El Republic. Beginning with 1992 in the Centre annual scientific and practical conferences on informatics are held where up to 400-500 school-students and school teachers participate.
With methodological support and assistance of the Centre a number of schools of Yoshkar-Ola are working in global computingnet works, MultiMedia complexes being established in the two schools.
At present with the assistance and support of the Government of the Mari El Republic the Centre in collaboration with the Joint Stock Company "Martelkom" is creating centers dealing with the work in the Internet in the seven main libraries of Yoshkar-Ola.
